In an annual comprehensive safety evaluation of every playground, the Wheatfield Park playground was found to have become unsafe.

On Monday, May 16, the park district will remove the more than 20 year old playground. Later that week the district will order a few individual play pieces that will be installed temporarily. New equipment will arrive in approximately six weeks.

In the summer of 2012, UPD staff will begin working with the neighborhood around Wheatfield Park to design a new playground. For more information about the planning process, contact Ellen Kirsanoff at erkirsanoff@urbanaparks.org. ***********************

This neighborhood park is located in southeast Urbana at McHenry Avenue and Combes Avenue in Urbana. It was established in 1975.

It has a playground and two tennis courts in addition to soccer practice fields.
