Internships at Urbana Park District

Where your park, recreation or sports management career begins!

Finding the right internship or fieldwork opportunity is your first step toward realizing your career goals. The Urbana Park District recognizes the importance of great beginnings and is committed to providing you with a wide variety of experiences that will help prepare you for your first professional position in the recreation field, in park management, environmental education, special education and more. We offer a flexible internship program based on your area of interest, education, skills and talents. Because of our diverse program offerings, we can customize your internship.

Interns who work a minimum of 30 hours per week will recieve a stipend of $50 per week. Interns and fieldwork students may apply for additional paid leadership positions as long as no conflict exists. Interested? Available Opportunities

Community Program Administration

Plan, coordinate and supervise classes and workshops for preschool, youth, teens and adults in the areas of art, dance, fitness and education. (Available fall, spring and summer.)

Sports Administration

Plan, coordinate and supervise sports programs for youth and adults.! Evaluate programs and personnel. (Available fall semester, spring semester and summer.)

Environmental Education

Plan and supervise a variety of nature classes, workshops and trips. Develop environmental education curricula for school groups. Assist in the management of Busey Woods and Meadowbrook Park. (Available fall semester, spring semester and summer.)

Senior Adult Programming

Plan and supervise classes and events for senior adults in the areas of fitness, leisure educat! ion and special events. (Available fall semester, spring semester and summer.)

Facilities Management

Assist in the management of the Lake House or Crystal Lake Pool, including financial and personnel management. (Available fall semester, spring semester and summer.)

Operations Management

Assist with the management of parks and facilities as it relates to maintenance needs and neighborhood involvement. (Available fall semester, spring semester and summer.)

Special Events Administration

Plan and supervise a variety of special events such as the Sounds of Summer Music Festival, Halloween FunFest, Turkey Trot and more.

Marketing and Public Relations

Assist in the development of marketing plans, assist with the producation of the program brochure, conduct and/or supervise marketing research, develop presentations, and news releases.

Volunteer Coordination

Assist in all aspects of volunteer administration, such as recruitment, interviews, supervision, recognition, appreciation and evaluation.

Special Recreation Supervision

Plan and supervise a wide variety of leisure activities for mentally and physically disabled youth and adults. Activities include after school programs, fitness, swimming and cooking.
