Tricky Tablet? Fussy Phone?

Tricky Tablet? Fussy Phone?

The Urbana Park District Senior Citizens Club can help anyone age 50 and up get more comfortable with technology.

They have partnered with students from the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science to provide drop-in help for free where you can get answers to questions such as, “How can I text using this phone?” What can I do with this iPad?” “My email is causing me trouble.” And more.

Registration is not required. Stop in the Phillips Recreation Center, 505 W. Stoughton, Urbana and bring your device, computer or phone with you.

Upcoming sessions are:

Tuesdays, 2-4pm (time is approximate, meet after the monthly senior potluck):  February 10, March 10, April 14
Thursdays, 12:30-2:30pm:  January 22, February 26, March 26, April 30

Community Program Manager Janet Soesbe has noticed more and more seniors in the club are buying or being given technology as gifts.

“They are eager to use their phones and their tablets, they just need a little kick start to get them going, or some answers to questions,” she said.

“Noah Lenstra, a student at GSLIS, approached the park district to see if he could offer the service and we started offering drop-in times in 2014. We plan to continue as long as there is interest,” she added.

If you have questions about the drop-in event, contact  Lenstra at nlenstr2@illinois.edu.
