Urbana Park District invites everyone to the 52nd Turkey Trot, Thursday, November 28, at the Lake House at Crystal Lake Park.

It’s a free fun run. People can check-in starting at 8 a.m. The race starts at 9 a.m.

“This is one of our most fun events each year,” said Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Manager. “The one-mile run or walk is a great way to get some exercise to kick off the holiday weekend.”

Once again this year, people can help more kids attend Urbana Park District programs and camps. “We invite everyone to make a donation to the Urbana Park District Youth Scholarship Fund. The donation helps the park district offer reduced-price summer camp next year for children in need,” Hedgspeth explained.

And, the run has become an Urbana tradition.

“Families and friends run the race together. Their out-of-town guests also get in on the fun. We’ve had people from across the country and around the world run at Crystal Lake Park over the years,” Hedgspeth added.

The first 800 people across the finish line will get a ribbon. “We’ll also raffle off prizes after the fun run,” Hedgspeth said.

Urbana Park District hopes to see people of all ages and abilities on Thanksgiving morning.

“The people who come to the race can help kids attend summer camp. And, they can make new friends and visit with old friends,” Hedgspeth concluded.
