Crystal Lake Park is in the middle of a transformation. And, the goal is to brighten up the bridge over the lake so walkers, and people in boats on the lake can enjoy works of art.

“We have been awarded an Urbana Arts & Culture Program grant to turn the Sanitary District Bridge over Crystal Lake into a temporary art gallery, and we are putting out a call for artists to submit their work for consideration,” said Janet Soesbe, Community Program Manager.

Urbana Park District is calling all artists to submit work that will be displayed in Crystal Lake Park.

“We are asking artists to submit their work by 6 p.m., June 1,” said Soesbe. “The chosen works will be reproduced on large, corrugated, plastic boards and hung directly on the bridge in Crystal Lake Park,” she explained.

Artists can submit art works in 12-categories. They can find specific instructions online.

Soesbe added, “All artists based in Illinois are invited to apply. Artists residing or working in Champaign County and its neighboring counties may receive preference from the selection panel.”

The selection panel will announce winners June 18. The panels will go on the bridge August 2 and come down by Thanksgiving this year.

“We hope all artists take a look at the entry instructions and send us their works of art,” Soesbe said. She concluded, “This is a great way to give artists a local opportunity to submit their works and highlight the wonderful things happening at Crystal Lake Park”
