Calling all bird lovers for Sunday morning bird watching

Fall is a great time for bird watching. Urbana Park District will host Sunday morning “Birds, Binoculars & Beverages” from 7:15 – 9:45 a.m., at Anita Purves Nature Center.

The event runs every Sunday from September 1 to October 27.

“We will open Anita Purves Nature Center early each Sunday for bird watchers, nature playscape users and hikers” said Judy Miller, Environmental Program Manager. “This is a free event. Experienced Champaign County Audubon bird watchers will lead hikes through Busey Woods from 7:30-9am.”

Miller added, “We have many different species of birds stop off at Busey Woods while migrating, so we are a prime bird watching area.”

Before and after each bird-watching hike people can enjoy light refreshments, coffee and conversation. “The nature center has a Wildlife Observation Room where people can watch birds from indoors,” Miller said.

Miller hopes people take advantage of the bird walks to learn more about nature in Urbana. “Bird watching is a great way to meet new friends and discover nature’s rich diversity,” she concluded.
