Celebrate biking August 15 at Meadowbrook Park

August can be a bittersweet month as kids go back to school and summer vacation comes to an end.

Urbana Park District wants to put some smiles on kids' faces and have an end of summer bike celebration August 15 at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana.

"This celebration coincides with our Neighborhood Nights concert," said Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Manager at Urbana Park District. She continued, "We’ll have live music from 6:30 until 8:00 in the evening. After the concert, people of all ages can enjoy a 22-mile bike ride and have ice cream at the Sidney Dairy Barn."

Several local bike shops and bike organizations will be at Meadowbrook Park to do free bike safety checks, fit people for bike helmets and share information about upcoming bike rides and races.

Hedgspeth hopes people ride their bikes to the Meadowbrook Park celebration whether or not they plan on going on the evening ride.

Evening bike rides are popular for biking enthusiasts. "State law requires bikes to have lights and we highly recommend helmets for the ride," Hedgspeth said.

Urbana Park District wants people to enjoy exercise and fitness and biking is a great way to get and stay fit. "You belong riding your bikes at Urbana Park District parks and we hope to get more and more people biking," Hedgspeth concluded.
