Celebrate biking May 22 at Weaver Park

May is Bike Month and we all know people in Urbana love biking. Urbana Park District is getting into the spirit, by hosting a bike celebration Wednesday, May 22, at Weaver Park.

“The celebration runs from 6-8 p.m.,” said Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Manager. “It is one of the first chances of the season for the community to come out to our parks for a free concert event.”

Riders of the Golden Maize will provide the music.

People coming to Weaver Park can enjoy the free concert, and biking experts and advocates will be on hand to perform bike safety check-ups and answer questions. Dragon Fire Pizza will be on site with pizza and refreshments available for purchase. After the concert, people can ride the Kickapoo Rail Trail for an evening trip to Saint Joseph.

State law requires lights for the evening ride, and people are strongly encouraged to wear helmets.

“We hope everyone comes out to Weaver Park this Wednesday to celebrate biking, from beginning biker to veteran,” Hedgspeth concluded.
