Celebrate spring at Anita Purves Nature Center

We are finally getting some early spring weather, and Urbana Park District wants you to know that Anita Purves Nature Center is a great place to relax and enjoy nature as the weather warms up.

“At the nature center, our programs and services help to facilitate experiences,” said Savannah Donovan, Environmental Public Program Coordinator. “We open a door for people and help them discover what they enjoy most about nature and the environment. We can then guide visitors to other resources once their interested is piqued,” she added.

The Park District also strives to model good environmental practices for the community. “Our green initiatives have been recognized by the Illinois Association of Park Districts. We recently received a ‘Best of the Best Award for Best Green Practices,’” Donovan added.

There are plenty of nature and environmental programs taking place in the coming months:

  • Sunday Morning Bird Walks: Sundays through May 26
  • Birds, Binoculars & Beverages: Sundays, April 7 – May 12
  • EarthCare Expo & Nature Hike: April 20
  • Earth Day Celebration with Schools: April 22
  • Arbor Day: April 26

“All of these events are free,” Donovan added. People can look on urbanaparks.org for more information about these programs.

“Everyone belongs at the Anita Purves Nature Center. We are eager to help visitors make the most of the spring and summer seasons coming up,” she concluded.

People can learn more about environmental and nature programs in this episode of Mark in the Park, a program that airs on Urbana Public Television.
