For people who are looking to be fit and lose weight, the scale can be a frustrating enemy. Urbana Park District has a free program on October 23, to teach people to measure their health with more than a weigh-in.

Beyond the Scale is October 23, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., at Phillips Recreation Center. The program is for people age 15 and up.

This is a free event, but people need to register by October 21. Call Phillips Recreation Center at (217) 367-1544 to let the park district know you’re coming.

“There are other ways to measure a person’s health besides weight,” said Ashley Dennis, Outreach and Wellness Coordinator. “Stress, activity levels, sleep, hydration and proper nutrition play just as big of a role.”

Dennis and Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Manager, will teach people techniques and tracking methods to measure those factors.

“If people can incorporate healthy habits and look beyond the number on the scale, they can improve their health,” Dennis commented.

“We hope people of all fitness levels take advantage of this unique class. Be sure to register by October 21 and we look forward to seeing lots of people on October 23,” Dennis added.
