Huge opening weekend at Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center

Memorial Day weekend can offer a mixed bag of weather from year-to-year. This year, near-record temperatures meant people were looking for a way to cool down.

Urbana Park District’s Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center was many people’s solution to the hot weather.

For the three-day Memorial Day Weekend, a total of 3,757 people enjoyed the outdoor pool. "We were at or near capacity all weekend," said Jennifer Nierenhausen, Aquatics Coordinator for Urbana Park District.

The forecast calls for continued hot weather which means Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center will still be an option for families. On weekdays, people can enjoy open swim from 12:30 – 8 p.m. On weekends, open swim is 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. The lap-swim lanes are open from 6-8 a.m., and 11 a.m. – Noon, weekdays.

Corky Emberson, Superintendent of Recreation added, "Since we are off to a hot start to the summer, people may want to make several trips to the pool. They can purchase a five or 10-vist punch card and save a dollar per admission."

They can also become members of Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center or become year-round members and enjoy our indoor pool in the winter."

Emberson concluded, "Be sure to follow Urbana Park District on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as we’ll have several special events for families, kids and adults this summer at the pool."
