An Urbana Park District Tradition is back this year!

The 54th annual Turkey Trot is Thanksgiving Morning, at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana. “We are so excited to have this event be in person this year, after a virtual trot last year due to COVID,” said Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Manager.

It’s a free run, walk or roll. People can check-in starting at 8 a.m., at the Lake House in Crystal Lake Park. The race starts at 9 a.m.

People can purchase a souvenir t-shirt and there will be hot chocolate available for free.

“This is one of our most fun events each year,” said Ashley Dennis, Outreach and Wellness Coordinator. “The one-mile run, roll or walk is a great way to get some exercise to kick off the holiday weekend.”

Once again this year, people can help more kids attend Urbana Park District programs and camps. “We invite everyone to make a donation to the Urbana Park District Youth Scholarship Fund. The donation helps the park district offer reduced-price youth programs,” Dennis explained.

And, the run has become an Urbana tradition.

“Families and friends participate together. Their out-of-town guests also get in on the fun. We’ve had people from across the country and around the world come to Crystal Lake Park on Thanksgiving morning,” Hedgspeth added.

The first 800 people across the finish line will get a ribbon. “We’ll also raffle off prizes afterward,” Hedgspeth said.

“Also, we ask that everyone wear a face mask,” Hedgspeth said.

Urbana Park District hopes to see people of all ages and abilities on Thanksgiving morning.
