Keeping water clean at Crystal Lake Park

The Urbana Park District is committed to high-quality, clean water at Crystal Lake Park. To that end, the Park District will add alum (aluminum sulfate) to the water on Tuesday.

"Alum is safe for humans and lake organisms.  Does not bioaccumulate in fish," said Andy Rousseau, Project Manager, Urbana Park District.

He added, "It works to bind the phosphorous in the sediments and reduce the levels available for nuisance weed growth like watermeal and duckweed."

This will be the third out of four alum applications at Crystal Lake Park.

"Urbana Park District is committed to safe, clean water in all of our parks and our staff continues to research the best solutions to achieve that goal," Rousseau concluded.
