Urbana Park District is excited to offer two painting opportunities this October and November.

“We are offering an Introduction to Painting class for people age 15 and up,” said Niki Hoesman, Community Program Coordinator. “The class is on Tuesday nights from 6 – 8 p.m., and begins on October 15. This is a 6 week class held at the Lake House in Crystal Lake Park.”

It costs $75 to register by October 8.

The Park District will provide the supplies for the class. “Local professional artist and Member International Society of Acrylic Painters, Carol Farnum, will teach the class. She is an incredible artist and human – you definitely want to take this class,” Hoesman added.

People can also participate in painting workshops lead by Sandra Steele from Paint on Canvas. Workshops are held on select Saturdays in October and November, at Phillips Recreation Center from 9 – 11:30 a.m. The Paint on Canvas Workshops dates are:

  • October 12
  • October 19
  • November 9

“Expect to leave the class with a beautiful work of art and some new skills,” Hoesman said. “Each class will focus on a different painting prompt designed by our talented instructor. You are welcome to take one workshop or all three.”

“People will learn to paint seasonal themes, landscapes, and much more!” Hoesman said. “And, students will leave the workshop with a finished project they can display or give as a gift.”

The Park District will provide all supplies. Each class costs $30.

“The arts are important to facilitate for our community and we are so happy to offer classes in painting, this fall. We feel lucky to work with talented people who want to share their love for art and painting. We hope to see you in class, soon!” Hoesman concluded.
