Join Chef Leah in the James Room Kitchen this winter and learn how to make some of famous TV chef Julia Child’s dishes.

The in-person programs will be in the James Room Kitchen at Phillips Recreation Center. People attending the classes must wear a mask and follow covid-19 guidelines.

“Julia Child made French cuisine accessible to American audiences, providing tips and lessons on how to easily prepare French food.” said Janet Soesbe, Community Program Manager. “We are so excited to have Chef Leah teach us how to cook just like Julia.”

The dates, times and dishes for each session are:

  • February 20, 2 - 4 p.m.; Coq a Vin
  • March 11, 6 – 8 p.m.; Boeuf Bourguigon
  • April 8, 6 – 8 p.m.; Chicken Waterzooi
  • April 17, 2 – 4 p.m.; Tarte Tatin

It costs between $26 - $32 for residents, per session, and a little more for non-residents. “We have special early-bird pricing for people who register early,” Soesbe added.

People need to call (217) 367-1544 to register. They can also register online at urbanaparks.org/register.

“Chef Leah from Blue Dragonfly Catering is an expert local chef, and she is looking forward to sharing Julia Child recipes with the community,” Soesbe said. She concluded, “Be sure to register for one, or all of the classes and enjoy learning cooking with your neighbors.”
