Urbana Park District needs life guards for this summer season at Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center and Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center.

“Life guards perform a vital service to the park district and the community in making sure swimmers are safe and helping visitors enjoy their day at the pool,” said Jennifer Nierenhausen, Aquatics Specialist.

If people want to make life guarding a long-term job, they can do so. “We need life guards year around at both our outdoor pool and at Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center,” Nierenhausen said.

Lifeguarding is for everybody. “People don’t need be look a certain way or be super athletic. Our aquatics staff is a family and all are welcome,” Nierenhausen said.

If people want to apply for a life guarding job, they can go to urbanaparks.org/jobs and fill out an application. If they have any questions, they can call Nierenhausen at (217) 384-7665, or email Nierenhausen at jrnierenhausen@urbanaparks.org.

The park district aquatics staff will train and certify the life guards before they are assigned to the pools. “We will work individually with each person to help them get certified and working for us,” Nierenhausen explained.

She concluded, “Lifeguarding is a special job. People learn responsibility and life-saving skills. It pays well and has a flexible schedule around school and extracurricular schedules. Please call or email to find out more about being a life guard and joining the UPD Aquatics staff.”
