People visiting the Wandell Sculpture Garden at Meadowbrook Park can enjoy a new piece of art.

The park district installed Growing Wings, last week. Artist Hilde DeBruyne of Cumming, Iowa donated the sculpture.

DeBruyne says by observing butterflies, we can learn more about ourselves. “Each of us transforms through multiple stages in our life: moments of growing pains, times of hunger and vulnerability followed by moments of tremendous energy, growth, wonder and amazement,” she commented.

The 500-pound sculpture is made with Corten. It was last on display at the Peoria Sculpture Walk in 2019.

People can find Growing Wings in the Sensory Garden.

Urbana Park District is excited to host this art work. “Art is a very important component in our parks,” said Timothy Bartlett, Executive Director. “We always look forward to getting new works of art to show the community. We thank Ms. DeBruyne for loaning the sculpture to Urbana Park District, and we invite the public to come out and enjoy the work.”
