There is a new sculpture located in Meadowbrook Park. Wending, by artist Ted Sitting Crow Garner, is now in the Wandell Sculpture Garden.
In regards to the work, Garner said, "The sculpture Wending was originally created for an outdoor exhibition of welded sculptures sponsored by Miller Electric Inc., of Appleton Wisconsin, a major manufacturer of arc-welding and related equipment. As a long-time user and owner of Miller welders, I was quite honored to be participating. It is one of a series of my sculptures that attempt to depict spiritual aspiration and growth in a static, yet flowing, formal composition. The title is a pun on the theme of the original exhibit for which it was created, and also a musing upon the necessity of maintaining one’s course through life; or as it were, wending one’s way."
Wending is one of over 50 works of art on display in Urbana Park District Parks. Be sure to check out all pieces by viewing our Arts & Sculpture Tour.
