6/5/26
Urbana Park District invites everyone out to Prairie Park for the annual Juneteenth Celebration, June 17.
The celebration is from 5:30 - 8 p.m., and everything is free.
Come out to Prairie Park and celebrate Black freedom and accomplishments both locally and beyond. Enjoy free games, food, community art, and resources. New Souls will provide the music from 6:30 - 8 p.m., and DJ Strange will provide the music from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
The City of Urbana will issue a Juneteenth Proclamation.
And there will be an activity with artist Ja Nelle Davenport-Pleasure. Ja Nelle Davenport-Pleasure is a Champaign-Urbana-based artist, poet, and curator whose work centers storytelling, identity, and community. Inspired by African and African American traditions of creating beauty from everyday materials, she transforms recycled elements into meaningful works of art. She is the creator of Styled 2 Speak and a former Champaign-Urbana Poet Laureate. Her Juneteenth project invites the community to create individual masks that come together as a collective expression of culture, history, and unity.
Call the park district at (217) 255-8601 for more information. The Urbana Free Library is partnering with the park district for this celebration.
We hope to see everyone June 17, from 5:30 - 8 p.m., for Juneteenth at Prairie Park!
