Celebrate Moths in July at Anita Purves Nature Center

6/23/26

Do you know that there are over 300 species of moths in our park district natural areas?! July 20 - 26 is National Moth Week and Urbana Park District is offering "mothtastic" programs during that week.

All events are at Anita Purves Nature Center, are free, and there is no registration required.

On July 20, 22, and 24 (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), come to the nature center for evening hikes and life moth trapping (weather permitting - see photo below). On July 24, Connor Ross, Environmental Services and Outreach Coordinator, will talk about his work studying over 300 species of moths in Busey Woods.

National Moth Week is a worldwide community science project focusing on the importance of moths as nocturnal pollinators.

Call Connor at (217) 384-4062 if you need further information. Or email him at cjross@urbanaparks.org

All ages are welcome to the nature center to celebrate National Moth Week in July!
