Celebrate National Trails Day with a Big Hike through our natural areas

5/30/26

June 6 is National Trails Day. To celebrate, Urbana Park District is inviting people to the National Trails Day Big Hike through the district's Natural Areas

Natural Areas are an area that is preserved or restored to a state that is characteristic of Illinois' native habitats, like prairies and woodlands. On June 6, join park district experts for a free hike through our natural areas and learn about the area's environment, nature, and how natural areas help maintain and improve the ecosystem.

Also, participants can earn a prize for every hike completed, and a special prize if they can make it to all four hikes!

The hikes are:

  • 7:30 - 9 a.m. - Weaver Park
  • 10 - 11:30 a.m. - Perkins Road Wet Prairie
  • 1:30 - 3 p.m. - Busey Woods
  • 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. - Meadowbrook Park

While everything is free, the park district encourages registration so naturalists can anticipate attendance. Call Anita Purves Nature Center at (217) 384-4062 for more information or sign up for free at the link below.
