Urbana Park District continues the work to remove European Black Alder trees in Meadowbrook Park along the upper McCullough Creek stream corridor—generally from the bridge near Windsor Ave to the south, approximately 600 feet.
Workers have removed the trees and will grind the stumps this week and will then backfill.
The park district had to remove the trees, because the seeds from the trees invaded adjacent prairie areas, including Spomer Prairie and the Wandell Sculpture Garden prairie.
Following removals, the Urbana Park District will restore area and will replant with native trees, shrubs, and plants.
