The Urbana Park District will continue with the next phase of removing Invasive European Black Alder from Meadowbrook Park this Winter and Spring. The trees are located along the upper McCullough Creek stream corridor—generally from the bridge near Windsor Ave to the south, approximately 600 feet.

The now-mature trees are producing more seed each year and are approaching a critical tipping point. The trees are invading adjacent prairie areas, including Spomer Prairie and the Wandell Sculpture Garden prairie. (See photo below)

Workers will remove trees, grind stumps, and backfill. Some of the tree removal materials could provide interim on-site cover and habitat.
Following removals, the Urbana Park District will restore area and will replant with native trees, shrubs, and plants.
Please call the park district at 217-344-9583 with any questions or concerns.
