When the Urbana Park District Health & Wellness Center opened on January 4, 2025, the goal was to have 800 people join as members during the first year of operation.
A few days ago, the Health & Wellness Center welcomed its 2000th member. And there have been 50,000 individual visits to the Health & Wellness Center in 10 months.
"We are thrilled that our Health & Wellness Center has been so well-received by the community," said Corky Emberson, Superintendent of Recreation. He added, "This facility is a great place to gather, build community, play and get healthy."
People can visit the Health & Wellness Center and pay $5 for a day pass. Or they can become members and enter as many times as they wish during a calendar year. A single, resident membership costs $125 a year. There are also family and senior membership packages. If people exercise often, or play pickleball or come to open gyms, that membership will pay for itself quickly.
If the price is an obstacle, the park district has partnered with OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center to give free memberships to those in need. Call the Health & Wellness Center at (217) 255-8601 for more information.
What's next? Stay tuned! In January 2026, the Health & Wellness Center plans to celebrate its first birthday, and the community will be invited!
