Help the park district revitalize King Park

9/30/26

You can help Urbana Park District replace the King Park playground and provide new, accessible amenities and features to the 59-year-old park.

The park district is getting ready to give King Park it's third master plan.

The current playground is over 20-years old and due for a replacement (see rendering of proposed new park below). Our Park Planners want to revitalize King Park to enhance recreational opportunities, improve accessibility, and introduce new community-focused features.

Here's where you can help. The current estimated cost of the King Park project is $1.5 million. The park district is applying for two grants to help offset the cost and has set aside money for the project. In addition, the Urbana Parks Foundation has a goal to raise $100,000 for the King Park Revitalization Project. You can donate to this project online.

You can learn more about the history of King Park from its birth to the present day by visiting an illustrated history at Phillips Recreation Center all October.

For more information about the project and how you can help, call Kern McCalla, Development Manager, at (217) 367-1536, or email her at kkmccalla@urbanaparks.org.

We look forward to bringing a revitalized King Park to the public!
