Kids in grades 4 - 6 invited to learn how to be Safe at Home


People is grades 4 - 6 are encouraged to sign up for the "Safe at Home" class on February 22, from 10 - 11:30 a.m., at Phillips Recreation Center.

The program is designed to prepare kids for their first steps toward independence. Participants learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.

It costs $15 per student. Register by February 16. Email Katie at kmbickers@urbanaparks.org, call (217) 367-1544, or register at the link below. Everyone in grades 4 - 6 are welcome to learn to be "Safe at Home!"

Safe@Home

Safe@Home is ideal for kids who have expressed interest in assuming the responsibility of staying home alone. Participants learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.
