Everyone in grades 6 - 9 are invited to sign up for the Safe Sitter course at Urbana Park District. The course is Saturday, April 18, at Phillips Recreation Center. The course runs from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
This nationally certified course is taught is a friendly, interactive environment and is for people in grades 6 - 9. The class shows participants safe and nurturing childcare techniques, behavior management skills, and appropriate responses to medical emergencies. Class materials are included in the fee.
It costs $20 to attend this class, $30 for non-residents if you sign up before April 4, for an early bird discount!

Safe Sitter
For ages 11-14 (6-8 grade) Course content includes: Safety Skills; indoor, outdoor, online, and personal safety. Child Care Skills; child development, childcare routines, behavior management. First Aid and Rescue Skills; injury prevention, injury management and choking rescue. Life and Business Skills; screening jobs, setting fees, and greeting employers. Please bring your own lunch.
Safe@Home
Safe@Home is ideal for kids who have expressed interest in assuming the responsibility of staying home alone. Participants learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.
