There is a new sculpture on display at the Wandell Sculpture Garden. Continuum was installed and dedicated during the September 6, Jazz Walk.
Artist Michael Shewmaker created Continuum and describes his creation. "Continuum grew out of an exercise where I was playing with a loop of wire. This loop fascinated me with the incredible energy it implied when I twisted it into different shapes," Schewmaker said. He explained, "Once I had the shape that grabbed me, the trick was to freeze it and carve it into a finished form. The large version of this piece is quite imposing. I have a 10 foot version in my garden. The optical effect kind of defies the imagination. The eye is led into the piece drawing the viewer to places unknown."
The sculpture is located on the north side of the Wandell Sculpture Garden loop, near Idea of an Apple, and Fluke. It is a striking piece as walkers come around the corner and lay eyes on it.
The Wandell Sculpture Garden is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk. All are welcome to come to Meadowbrook Park and experience public art in a natural setting.
