Volunteering to work in our natural areas is a rewarding experience - just ask one!

Much of the work that is done to restore and enhance the natural areas of the Urbana Park District is performed by volunteers.

Chris Berti is a dedicated volunteer Master Naturalist who spends upwards of 150 hours every year volunteering in support of Urbana Park District Natural Areas. Here Chris offers some perspective on what it's like to be a volunteer and what motivates him to continue to support naturals areas restoration.

Come out and help Urbana's natural areas like Chris!

We hold two public workdays a week all year round. Throughout the month of December 2025, our schedule will be as follows:

Tuesday morning from 9:00AM-11:00AM at Prairie/Weaver Park (Meeting at Health & Wellness Center lot, 2002 E Washington Ave.) - Invasive tree and shrub removal.

Wednesday morning from 9:00AM-11:00AM at Crystal Lake Park (Meet at the Broadway Ave entrance) - Invasive tree and shrub removal

Drop-ins are always welcome during these times and no need to register. Contact Matt Balk at mjbalk@urbanaparks for more information about becoming a steward, workday schedules, and even working on your own schedule.

Everyone is welcome to come out and help beautify our natural areas for the public!
