Young people can learn to stay at home alone thanks to a special course at Urbana Park District

5/7/26

People ages 9 - 13 can get educated about how be on their own for short periods of time thanks to the Safe@Home program.

Safe@Home is for kids who have expressed an interest in assuming responsibility and staying at home when the adults are out of the house.

Participants learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. They will also learn about the first aid chart so they can appropriately respond in injuries and illness.

There are two sessions this summer - June 11 and August 6, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Register early for a discount - $12 for residents at $19 for non-residents.

Email Katie at kmbickers@urbanaparks.org with any questions. Call (217) 367-1544 to register or sign up at the link below.

This is a great opportunity for young people to learn how to stay home by themselves for periods of time. Everyone ages 9 - 13 is invited to learn how to be Safe@Home!
