Outreach Programs
The department of Outreach and Wellness works to bring fun and resources to you. We believe strongly that You Belong Here and work to prove it every day by provided accessible programming all across Urbana.
The Outreach and Wellness department is housed at the Health and Wellness Center! Come say hi!
UrVANa Mobile Recreation Unit
Urbana Park District is excited to bring the fun to you with UrVANa Mobile Recreation Unit. Our big, green van is coming to parks near you all year round. We are always looking for hard workers to help both as paid employees as well as volunteers.
To learn how to volunteer, email Kern McCalla and Jameel Jones.
Scholarships Opportunities
Urbana Park District is proud to offer UrVANa Scholarships for select programs thanks to a generous donation. Scholarships can be used for programming such as Fall Youth Soccer and can be filled out at events where UrVANa is present. Scholarships are limited to one program per person per program guide season.
For more information about the UrVANa Scholarship program, please contact Kern McCalla.
Requesting UrVANa
Want UrVANa at your event, program, or party? You can request UrVANa and its staff through our UrVANa request process. To request UrVANa or ask questions you can contact Kern McCalla and Jameel Jones.
- Please include the name, goal, date, time, and location in your request.
- Please note, UrVANa rentals may require a small fee to help cover staff time.
If you would like Urbana Park District to share resources (flyers, etc) at your event, registration night, resource fair, reach out to Kern McCalla and Jameel Jones to learn more.
UrVANa Request Timeline
- Initial Request emailed to Outreach and Wellness Team. We will respond to let you know whether or not we are considering your event based on how it aligns with our department goals.
- The initial request should include the event name, event goal, date, time, and location.
- O&W Team checks the event against our current programming calendar.
- If there is availability, O&W checks with staff to see who may be able to cover the event.
- If staff are available, we will let the requester know and confirm all needs and wishes for the event.
- For example, what age group will we be working with? What activities do you hope to see? Do you want a craft included?
- Once these details are finalized, we will confirm again when we will be there and what staff will be attending.
- We require that all marketing for the event (flyers, social media posts) is reviewed and approved by the Urbana Park District.
- If social media is used to promote the event, we ask that UrVANa Mobile Rec Unit is tagged on Facebook and Urbana Park District is tagged on all other social media.
