Urbana Park District’s Anita Purves Nature Center invites kids ages 6 – 15 to the Owl Prowl for Kids, February 23, from 5 – 7 p.m.

It costs $11 to register. Non-resident registration is $17. Parents are free with a registered child.

“The Owl Prowl for Kids is a great chance to learn about all the different owls that live in Illinois. Close attention will be on the owls living in Busey Woods and at the nature center,” said Savannah Donovan, Environmental Public Program Coordinator.

“Not only will kids learn about owls, they’ll hike Busey Woods in search of wild owls,” Donovan added.

Nature Center staff will give kids a short presentation about owls before heading outdoors to hike the trails for an owl prowl. “Be sure to wear proper shoes. We’ll hike on soft trails with uneven surfaces, so please do not bring strollers,” Donovan explained.

After the hike, everyone will meet back at the nature center for hot cocoa and more owl education. “Kids will dissect owl pellets and meet the education screech owls that live at the nature center,” Donovan said.

“The owls, both captive and wild, are very popular at the nature enter. Everyone is welcome to come here and learn more about our nocturnal friends,” Donovan concluded.
