Park District Hosts Pool Party Run By Those With Disabilities

Nothing beats a fun pool party. And, members of Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation and Community Choices got to put on a fun, family-friendly pool party at the Urbana Park District’s Indoor Aquatic Center last weekend. Park District employees assisted those with disabilities in putting on the inaugural Community Palooza. 115 people attended the event.

"I always enjoy watching people enjoy our pool," said Leslie Radice, Aquatics Manager for Urbana Park District. "But, I truly enjoyed watching those with disabilities take ownership of the pool, put on Community Palooza and interact with families. Everyone benefitted from this event," she added.

People got to play various pool games, including a cannon ball contest (judges pictured below), scavenger hunt and answering trivia questions for a trip down the waterslide.

Radice concluded, "We were thrilled with the turnout and the feedback we got from our customers. I hope we can continue our partnership with Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation and Community Choices to enrich Urbana."
