Did you ever wish you could dance to jazz tunes like the people in the movies? You can learn how at Urbana Park District this fall.

The park district is putting on Swing Dance classes for everyone age 15 and up, Sundays from October 17 to November 21, at Phillips Recreation Center. There are beginning and intermediate swing dance classes.

“People will learn swing dancing moves such as the jitterbug, Charleston, and the Lindy Hop,” said Matthew Lewis, Community Program Coordinator. He added, “It is a fun energetic partner dance appropriate for a wide range of music. Beginner classes are appropriate for everyone including people with no dance experience.”

Paul and Sarah Scott will teach both beginner and intermediate classes. The intermediate classes are for people who have already taken a beginning class.

People don’t need to sign up with a partner. They can register solo if they wish.

If people register by October 3, they get a special discount - $23 for residents and $35 for non-residents. Register online or call the park district at (217) 367-1544 to register.

Lewis concluded, “I hope that people take away something new they’ve learned in the classes each session, while creating memories and remembering good experiences they’ve had while learning.”
