People who want to learn self-defense or learn new ways to exercise are invited to sign up for Aikido this March, April and May at Urbana Park District.
The class runs from March 8 to May 7, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Brookens Gym.
Gyokushin Ryu Aikido is a traditional Japanese Aikido style that also incorporates elements of Judo and Karate. This is a defensive martial art. The instructor, Dr. Barry Ackerson, is a 5th degree black belt (Godan) who has been awarded the title of Shihandai by Master Washizu in Japan.
People can also learn Aikido for mindfulness and flexibility.
The class is open for people ages 15 and up. Register by February 22, and get an early-bird discount - $81 for residents and $122 for non-residents.
People can register online on call (217) 367-1544 to sign up.
Everyone is welcome to learn Aikido this spring.
