Strawberry Ice Cream + Jamming Music = a great 2018 Strawberry Jam!

Strawberry-topped ice cream always tastes better on a very hot day. And that ice cream tasted extra-good Saturday as around 2000 people enjoyed coming together as a community and listening to great music from local groups at the 29th Annual Strawberry Jam.

Kids enjoyed face-painting and hayrack rides and there were plenty of information booths and prizes for people of all ages. The music groups High Cotton, Hobnob String Band and The Bashful Youngens entertained the crowd with great music.

"Despite the heat everyone seemed to have a great time. The hayrack ride didn't stop until nearly 8:30 at night," said Judy Miller, Environmental Program Manager for Urbana Park District. She added, "The music was awesome, complete with a conga dance at the last song for the night. Strawberries and ice cream are always enjoyed. One visitor said they made his day."

So why does Urbana Park District put on Strawberry Jam? Miller explained, "It is an early summer kickoff event for many families and a fun way to celebrate Father’s Day a day early."

Thanks for attending Strawberry Jam, and keep looking for more free events happening this summer at Urbana Park District!
