Two recent additions to the Wandell Sculpture Garden had a successful run in a public art display on Broadway.

Jon Isherwood is a world-renown sculptor, and the sculptures Giving Angel and After Giverny were prominently featured in New York City in the critically-acclaimed display, Broadway Blooms: Jon Isherwood on Broadway. The eight-sculpture display ran from July 2021 – July 2022 and featured sculptures of flower blooms – symbolizing the return to life in the city after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Isherwood’s work has been widely exhibited in public museums and private galleries in US, Canada, Europe and China. He is the recipient of a Jerome Foundation Fellowship, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation award and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of New York at Plattsburgh.

Isherwood agreed to loan two of the sculptures to Urbana Park District. Those two works and more are now on display for people to see at Meadowbrook Park.

“We are very fortunate to have a highly sought-after artist display his works at Meadowbrook Park,” said Tim Bartlett, Executive Director. “The park district is dedicated to public art in natural spaces, and we are so pleased the Wandell Sculpture Garden’s 25th Anniversary Celebration features these interesting works.”

Bartlett concluded, “We welcome everyone to Meadowbrook Park and the Wandell Sculpture Garden to view these works, and all of the sculptures. We think you will find the visit educational, inspiring and fun.”
