Families who need childcare on days where there is no school can look to Urbana Park District.

The park district offers School’s Out Days from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., at Phillips Recreation Center.

The program is open to kids ages 5 – 12.

“School’s Out Days are a fun way to spend the day when kids aren’t in school,” said Niki Hoesman, Community Program coordinator.

She continued, “Each day is themed and we offer arts activities, movement breaks, and a field trip that matches the theme. We will provide afternoon snacks so please pack a lunch and breakfast snack for your child.”

Kids will ride MTD busses with park district staff to field trip locations.

School’s Out Days are:

  • Friday, October 4
  • Monday, October 14
  • Thursday, November 1
  • Wednesday, November 27

The early bird costs are $38 for residents and $57 for non-residents for each day. “The deadline to register is one week before the School’s Out Day,” Hoesman explained. “If they register two weeks before the off day, they will receive the early bird discount.”

People can learn more by calling Phillips Recreation Center at (217) 367-1544, or register online.

“We are happy to provide an exciting day for the children and to help parents by providing care for their children during typical work days,” Hoesman said.
