BEAR THE 4th PERFORMANCE PROJECT FROM THE UNRELIABLE BESTIARY

"MANY SCIENTISTS PREDICT THAT CLIMATE CHANGE AND HUMAN ACTIVITY WILL PUSH HALF THE SPECIES ON THE PLANET INTO EXTINCTION BY 2050. ANIMALS HAVE BEEN AT THE HEART OF CULTURAL MYTHS ALL OVER THE WORLD - WHAT WILL WE DO WHEN OUR DREAMS DISAPPEAR? WE HOPE THAT EVENTS LIKE BEAR WILL PLANT THE SEEDS OF ECOLOGICAL STEWARDSHIP AND REAWAKEN PEOPLE TO A WORLD THAT IS SLIPPING AWAY."

–artist Deke Weaver

The Urbana Park District will host one of the three parts of this interdisciplinary public performance. In September and October, the Meadowbrook Interpretive Center will be the hub for guided walking tours through the wilds of Urbana’s Meadowbrook Park.

Wednesday through Sunday

Sep 21-25 and Sep 28 -Oct 2

6 tours a night (12 people per tour)

The event is free, but reservations are required. Tickets are available through the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, www.krannertcenter.com

BEAR’s 90 minute walking tours through Meadowbrook Park will take place over uneven, possibly muddy, terrain. Wear appropriate shoes and clothing. BEAR and other Unreliable Bestiary events are not written for children. There may be violent, sexual, and uncomfortable images included in the stories/scenarios depicted.

The Unreliable Bestiary is a life-long project presenting a performance for every letter of the alphabet, each letter representing a particular endangered animal or habitat. To date Deke Weaver and his troupe have completed performances about three animals: MONKEY, ELEPHANT and WOLF.
