Introduction to Tango for Couples

You'll work with the same partner throughout the course. This class is ideal for couples preparing to dance at their wedding. It is similar to the Foundations of Tango Course, but focuses more on developing a partnership in tango. Individual couples will be permitted to progress at a faster or slower pace as it suits them. It is one of the primary dance forms from which American contra and square dance are descended. Jonathan Sivier leads these fun, social and low-impact dances that provide good exercise for the mind and body. Examples can be seen in the various movie adaptations of Jane Austen’s books. We may include dances from the American Colonial, Revolutionary and Civil War eras, as well as modern compositions. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a pair of clean, softsoled, non-marking shoes. It is one of the primary dance forms from which American contra and square dance are descended. Jonathan Sivier leads these fun, social and low-impact dances that provide good exercise for the mind and body. Examples can be seen in the various movie adaptations of Jane Austen’s books. We may include dances from the American Colonial, Revolutionary and Civil War eras, as well as modern compositions. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a pair of clean, softsoled, non-marking shoes. Conducted on an open lawn overlooking beautiful Meadowbrook Prairie, this is an ideal environment to relieve stress, achieve a sense of calm, and enjoy a great workout! No prior yoga experience is necessary, all ages and abilities welcome! This is a “karmic” yoga practice, which means there is absolutely no charge! Donations are welcome and will benefit the Urbana Park District Summer Camp Scholarship Fund. This fund assists families who wish to send their children to summer camp, and would otherwise be unable to do so. The class will meet at the open lawn adjacent to the Meadowbrook play structure. Look for the parking lot just off of Windsor Road. You are encouraged to bring your own mat, but if you don’t have one, you can borrow one of ours, free of charge!
