Safety Town Survey

October 17, 2016 12:21 PM

Champaign-Urbana is looking at the possibility of building a safety town in Douglass Park, located at 512 E. Grove St. in Champaign. A safety town is a miniature town with various health and safety related programs tailored to different age groups. Safety Town is conceived as a facility primarily for the children of our community, where children can have structured safety education field trips, and also use the site recreationally in a family-friendly park setting. For comparison, some other cities with safety towns are: Naperville, IL; Peoria, IL; Danville, IL; and Frisco, TX. To get a better understanding of the idea of a safety town, here is a link to the Naperville Safety Town: http://www.napervillejuniors.org/safetytown.
