Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation

Champaign–Urbana Special Recreation (CUSR) was formed through a partnership of both Urbana and Champaign Park Districts in 1985. It was created to serve individuals in the C–U area of all ages and abilities throughout the year with recreational programs and services.

CUSR full time staff all have studied in the area of Therapeutic Recreation and have obtained a national certification as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS).

CUSR advocates for and ensures that individuals with special needs have equal access to recreational options in their community. CUSR provides specialized programs specifically designed for individuals with a variety of special needs through their seasonal brochures. CUSR also provides inclusion support within both the Urbana and Champaign Park Districts in all the programs and services offered to their communities.

Among the programs offered throughout the year at CUSR include; after school, summer camp, special event, skill building, day programs, trips, athletics and Special Olympics. CUSR participants explore new areas of interest, meet new peers and learn lifetime leisure skills. All programs offered at CUSR have a goal based direction with a focus on enjoyment and success at the level of the individual involved.

While CUSR is a partnership of the local park districts, programs are open to any and all that want to come play with us.
