May is National Bike Month and Urbana Park District has several opportunities for you to get out and enjoy biking in the community.
“UPD has wonderful trails conducive to bicycling which are easily accessible in conjunction with existing bicycle infrastructure throughout Urbana,” said Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Manager. She added, “Also, Urbana is a Gold level bicycle friendly community. The Park District is supportive of the community in its bicycle friendly efforts. The Urbana Park District is also a Silver level bicycle friendly business.”
The park district has several opportunities for families, kids and adults to ride bikes in May, including green loop rides, bike to school day and bike safety classes for kids and adults.
All events are free and you can read more each event in our program guide.
Everyone is welcome to take part in the park district’s biking events this month. And, Hedgspeth says she hopes the month will inspire new biking habits in Urbana.
“Biking is a great low impact option for physical activity that provides an environmentally friendly method of transportation at the same time. In addition to the physical and environmental advantages, biking is a great way to meet new friends and explore Urbana through a new lens,” Hedgspeth said.
