What: Kickapoo Rail Trail Grand Opening!!
This is what we have been waiting for….the first phase of the Kickapoo Rail Trail (from Urbana to St. Joseph) will be open this Friday, August 25th. The Grand Opening event will be held in St. Joseph at 5:30 pm. If you want to ride your bike there and can be free by 4:30pm on Friday afternoon, come ride with us to St. Joseph!
Cyclists from across Champaign, Urbana, and Savoy will meet at Weaver Park located on East Main Street in Urbana (see map below), and leave at 4:30pm for St. Joseph. We will take the ride over at a comfortable, easy pace, and arrive on Main St in St. Joseph at 5:15.
Dress code: You could wear your green KRT t-shirt from Bike Month 2015, that will be cool. (We will be selling the last of those t-shirts at the Grand Opening for a $5 donation.) Some cyclists are wearing the oldest bike jerseys they have around - to commemorate the long time they have ben waiting for the trail to be built! (I think this idea is awesomely fun!) Be creative if you like, or just come from work on your commuter bike in your kakis. It doesn’t matter what you wear, just come! It’s time to celebrate - and ride the Trail! Bring a friend!
