People can get fit and enjoy warm summer weather this summer at Meadowbrook Park.
Urbana Park District is offering free Yoga, Tai Chi and Zumba fitness sessions at Meadowbrook Park.
Yoga in the Park will be Saturdays from 9 – 10 a.m., at Meadowbrook Park Prairie Play. The Saturday sessions start June 12 and run through August 21. All ages and abilities are welcome.
“These Yoga sessions are for people of all ages and abilities. It can be a fun family event,” said Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Manager. Yoga instructors will offer modifications. “That way, people can practice at their own ability,” Hedgspeth explained.
The Yoga classes are free, but attendees may make a donation to the Urbana Park District Youth Scholarship Fund.
Tai Chi will be on select Tuesdays at the Meadowbrook Park Garden Pavilion for people age 15 and up. These free classes will run between 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., on:
- June 8 and June 22
- July 13 and July 27
- August 10 and August 24
Tai Chi classes are designed to reduce stress and enhance meditation. “Black belt Tai Chi instructors will guide you through easy lessons that will strengthen the mind and body,” Hedgspeth said.
The park district will also offer free Zumba in the park for all ages select Saturdays from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., at Meadowbrook Park Prairie Play:

Local Zumba instructor Lei Shanbhag will host a free outdoor Zumba party. “Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired calorie burning dance and fitness party. Everyone is welcome regardless of age, shape or ability,” Hedgspeth added.

“All our fitness programs will follow covid-19 safety guidelines. Everyone is welcome to Meadowbrook Park this summer and we look forward to seeing lots of people enjoying our fitness offerings,” Hedgspeth said.
