Kindergarten kids can learn to play soccer this fall

July 22, 2021 08:00 AM

Kindergarten-aged kids can sign up for Sharkey’s Fall Soccer this fall at Urbana Park District.

Register for a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday session. The games and practices begin August 30 and runs through October 7, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

“The games are fun and the practices help build teamwork and basic soccer skills,” said Kyle Mills, Athletics Supervisor.

The rules, field, ball and goal are modified to meet a kindergartener’s size and ability. “Everyone gets a t-shirt and everyone participates,” Mills added.

The games and practices are held at park district parks. Park assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kids who register by August 16 get an early bird discount - $25 for residents and $37 for non-residents.

The park district is also looking for officials to work Sharkey’s soccer. People can see for more information. If people want to help volunteer as a coach this fall, please give Mills a call at (217) 367-1544.

“Soccer is a great game and we welcome kindergarteners of all abilities to come out and play this fall,” Mills concluded.
