Believe it or not, you can get a good workout while you sit in a chair watching TV or while at work. “Get Fit Where You Sit” is a class in chair yoga, and Urbana Park District is offering two class sessions this fall.

The sessions run:

  • October 23 – December 4 (deadline to register October 23)
  • December 11 – 18 (early bird deadline to register November27)

The classes, for people ages 15 and up, take place each Wednesday from 10:15 – 11:05 a.m. The October 23rd-December 4th session will be held at the Phillips Recreation Center and the shortened December 11th-December 18th session will be held at the Anita Purves Nature Center.

“This is a calming and refreshing class that provides a nice, gentle stretch and a great start to the day,” said Ashley Dennis, Outreach and Wellness Coordinator. “Our instructor is Robin from LV Chair Yoga and she will teach Yoga movements that can be done while sitting in a chair.”

For the October session, the class costs $38 for residents and $57 for non-residents. For the December class, early bird registration costs $9 for residents and $14 for non-residents.

“Chair Yoga is a simple, but invigorating form of exercise no matter a person’s physical challenges,” Dennis said. She concluded, “Everyone is welcome to this class and we hope to see people of all abilities and ages learn this fun way to get fit.”
