The holidays are always an exciting time as we look to exchange gifts with friends, co-workers and loved-ones. Those shopping expenses can start to pile up and ruin the holiday atmosphere.

Urbana Park District, as part of its financial well-being series, is offering a Holiday Shopping Savviness workshop on November 14, from 6 – 7:15 p.m., at Phillips Recreation Center.

Kathy Sweedler, University of Illinois Extension Educator, will conduct the workshop.

“We want to give people a positive holiday spending plan,” said Elsie Hedgspeth, Outreach and Wellness Coordinator. “Kathy will teach people money-saving tips. And, she’ll give tips on how to protect from identity theft.”

It costs $5 to attend the workshop and people have until November 12 to register online or by calling Urbana Park District at (217) 367-1544.

“People can give themselves the gift of a debt-free holiday season,” Hedgspeth said. “Everyone age 17 and older is welcome and we hope to see many people learn to take stressing over money out of the holidays.”
