New kitchen promises fun, educational cooking and nutrition programs

Urbana Park District is proud to launch a new demonstration kitchen this spring. The kitchen is located at Phillips Recreation Center and will open in a few days.

“The new kitchen is a result of public feedback,” said Niki Hoesman, Community Program Coordinator. “People want a place to learn nutrition and to try their hand cooking with their friends, family and neighbors. This kitchen does just that.”

The kitchen seats a dozen, has an overhead camera and TV monitor so the audience can see what’s going on.

“We plan on having cooking and nutrition programs for people of all ages. We also will have classes for families, kids and adults,” Hoesman added.

People can look for cooking and nutrition classes at urbanaparks.org, or in the summer Program Guide, set to mail at the end of the month.

“We want people to use this new kitchen, have fun and learn new things,” Hoesman commented.
