Urbana Park District is looking forward to unveiling the new playground at Phillips Recreation Center. Workers took the old playground equipment out earlier this winter and are installing new equipment.
“The project is moving along very well,” said Andy Rousseau, Project Manager. “We hope the weather cooperates with us and the playground can open in June.”
In the summer of 2017, kids attending Urbana Park District camps created a collage of different things they’d like to see at the playground. Park Planners last year consulted with students at a nearby school who use the playground frequently.
“We used the kids’ input and carefully planned this project for two years,” Rousseau said.
Rousseau concluded, “We’re excited to complete this project and give the public a new play structure at Phillips Recreation Center. People will feel a sense of belonging at the new playground as we will have equipment for all ages and all abilities – including equipment for kids and kids at heart.”
